Lymph nodes

Lymphatic capillaries are like jigsaw puzzle shape cell's connect oxygenated and deoxygenated vessels. Fluid moves towed end of lymph node. There dead end or blind ended vessels. Closed ended means not connected to anything else. The lymph fluid moves form Skeletal muscle pumps. Efferent vessel directs to the lymph node. There are 3 major area's where the lymph nodes are. The cervical nodes, axillary nodes, and inguinal nodes.

Lymph nodes are important for protecting our bodies from harmful diseases. There supposed to help filter them away. My boyfriend had swollen lymph nodes in his cervical area and inguinal area. At first we didn't know what it was, but when i took him to the doctors, he was told it was swollen lymph nodes and it was caused by some infection in his body, and the lymph nodes are trying to fight it off. He ended up giving him medicine, and the swelling went down. In some way the nodes where trying to fight his infection, and by doing that they where swelling.

  1. The lymphatic system is very important to our homeostasis and helps protect us from pathogens. Although I'm sure your boyfriend was uncomfortable by his swollen lymph nodes, it's a relief to know that they were doing their job and fighting off his infection (with the add of the medicine his dr. prescribed him). I had a roomie who recently was having problems with her legs swelling. One morning her thighs were so swollen she couldn't fit into any of her pants. It happened quite suddenly and she (and I) were very concerned. The Dr. told her the valves in her lymphatic vessels had collapsed and were no longer working. The lymph fluid wasn't being returned to her blood, but instead causes edema in her legs. Her case was so bad that she has been having dialysis three days a week and has to wear compression hoses (bandages) the entire length of her legs. She's very uncomfortable. Also she works full time and tending to this issue is very time consuming. It's pertinent that she goes to dialysis as the fluid is continously building up in her legs. Makes us thankful when our body is working correctly!
